Abstract

Keywords : Speaking, English Song There are two objectives of this research. First to identify English song is to teach speaking skill at the eighth grade students of MTs N Bendosari Sukoharjo in the Academic year of 2015/2016. Second, to describe the students’ responses toward the use of English song is effective to teach speaking at the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri Bendosari Sukoharjo in the Academic year of 2015/2016 The method that the researcher used in this research was quasi- experimental research (pretest and post test). The sample of the research is the eighth grade students of 8B and 8D. Each of them consists of 20 students. The eighth grade students of 8D are as experimental class who were taught using English song and the eighth grade students of 8B are as control class who were taught using textbook. The data were the scores of students’ speaking test after having four times treatment for each class. The data were analyzed by using T-test formula. The data analyses of the research are showed into two parts. (1) There was any significant effect of english song in teaching speaking to the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri Bendosari Sukoharjo in the academic year of 2015/2016. The mean score of the experimental class is 73, while the mean score of control class is 66. The result of t-test computation that to is 71.05 while the value of t- table (tt) is 2.021. It shows that to is higher than tt (to>tt). Therefore, the alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. (2) The students’ response toward the use of English song in teaching speaking. The students give good responses of English song in teaching speaking. Through the result of students responses that they agree to use English song in teaching speaking and students interested to use English song to enhance their speaking.
