Abstract

Keyword : racism, anti-racial education, structuralism approach, movie. The problems of the research are (1) how teacher performs to promote anti-racial education as reflected in Dangerous Minds, (2) how the students in movie respond to the strategies applied by the teacher as reflected in Dangerous Minds. The objectives of this research are to describe how the teacher performs to promote anti-racial education as reflected in Dangerous Minds movie and to describe the responses by the students in the movie to the teacher who performs to promote anti-racial education as reflected in Dangerous Minds. The research is descriptive qualitative research. The main research instrument is the researcher herself. Techniques of collecting data are (1) watching Dangerous Minds movie, (2) investigating the problem, (3) collecting the data by focusing about anti-racial education, (4) and classifying the data. The researcher uses content analysis which focuses on analyzing how the teacher performs to promote anti-racial education and the student responses in the movie to the teacher who promotes anti-racial education on Dangerous Minds with McLeod and Steven M. Chafe theories. This research finds that the ways performed by the teacher to promote anti-racial education are criticism, equality, choosing a better material, protection, sympathy, and appreciation, stereotype, protest, verbal threat, and convincing. Student responses in the movie to the teacher are incredulous, rebuttal statement, initiative act, participation in discussion, awareness, convincing, inspiration, positive threat, claiming, and persuasion. Students‟ responses appear from teacher who performs to promote anti-racial education. Moreover, they have related each other.
