Abstract

Translating politeness is a great problem. Most of the English Department students face that big problem. Politeness in language use is shown in attitudes, behaviors, attitudes and language. The linguistic politeness is marked by long-short expression, sequence of expression, intonation of expression, kinesics gesture, and politeness marker. The level of politeness is affected by gender, age, kind of job, and education background. Overcoming that problem by applying Problem Based Learning is a challenge. This study aims to describe and to analyze the application of Problem Based Learning to Increase the students' achievement in translating politeness forms in English text. The research result shows that Problem Based Learning should be used as one of the Considered an effective method in the translation teaching and learning process for its effectiveness in increasing the students' translation as well as participation in learning process
