A Corelation Study Between Reading Habit And Translation Ability Toward Reading Comprehension At The Sixth Semester English Student Of English Education Department Islamic In The State Islamic Institute Of Surakarta In The Academic Year Of 2017/2018. Thesis. English Education Program, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. IAIN Surakarta. Advisor : Zainal Arifin, S.Pd., M.Pd. . Key Words : reading habit , translation ability, and reading comprehension The thesis is intended to verify (1) whether there is any significant correlation between reading habit and reading comprehension; (2) whether there is positive correlation between translation ability and reading comprehension; (3) whether there is positive correlation between reading habit and translation ability toward reading comprehension. The research was carried out at The Sixth Semester English Student Of English Education Department In The State Islamic Institute Of Surakarta In The Academic Year Of 2017/2018. The research method was quantitative research. This research uses correlational research design. The sample of this study is the students at 6 B class which consist of 33 students and the subject of the try-out is from 6 A class which consist of 28 students. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The instrument of collecting the data were the questionnaire to obtain the data of students’ reading habit and the test to obtain the data of translation ability and reading comprehension. The technique used to analyze the data were Product Moment and Multiple Linear Regression formula to test the hypothesis. The result of the research are (1) there is a positive correlation between reading habit (X1) and reading comprehension (Y) because the coefficient of correlation r-obtained is higher than r-table (0.677 > 0.344) and sig 0.000 < 0.05. (2) there is a positive correlation between translation ability (X2) and reading comprehension on (Y) because the coefficient of correlation r-obtained is higher than r-table (0.643 > 0.344) and sig 0.000 < 0.05. (3) there is a simultaneously positive correlation between reading habit (X1), translation ability (X2), and reading comprehension on descriptive text (Y) because the value/r-obtained is higher than r-table (0.796 > 0.344) and sig 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, while the nul hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the result of the research, the research findings show there is a significant correlation in reading habit, translation ability toward reading comprehension. The researcher suggests to motivate the students to pay more attention their reading habit and their translation ability. It can improve their comprehension in reading. Then the researcher should consider the students’ reading habit first, then their translation ability.
