Abstract

Vocabulary mastery are related to reading skills. Vocabulary mastery needed comprehension to know the content of the text. There are various media which can use by the teacher in teaching and learning process to support the students to be active in the classroom. One of the various media which is used in this reasearch was Scattergories Game. The researcher formulated the problem statement of this research; namely, is there any significant difference in students‟ vocabulary mastery between students‟ who are taught using Scattergories Game and those who are taught using Crosswrd Puzzle Game at the tenth grade of MAN 2 Klaten in the academic year 2017/2018? The objectives of this research is to find out whether there is a ignificant difference in students‟ vocabulary mastery between Students‟ who are taught using Scattergories Game and those who are taught using Crossword Puzzle Game at the tenth grade of MAN 2 Klaten in the academic year 2017/2018. This research uses quasi-experimental design (pretest-posttest design with non-equivalent group). It was carried out at MAN 2 Klaten from January until May 2018. The population of this research is all the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Klaten in the academic year 2017/2018. The total population of tenth grade students is 620 students. By using multistage random sampling, the researcher took 2 classes which the total number of the students is 68 students as the sample. To collect the data, the researcher uses test, namely is multiple choice test consist of 40 items. Test is used to collect the data of students‟ vocabulary achievement. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses Pearson Product Moment formula and T-test formula. The result of the research shows that mean score of experimental class is 79,79, while the mean score of control class is 71,91. The result of ttest computation between post-test score in Experimental and control class that to was 5,265while the value of ttable was 1,668. It showed that to was higher than tt (to > tt). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted while the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Based on the result above, the research finding was effective in teaching vocabulary mastery for the tenth grade of MAN 2 Klaten in the academic year 2017/2018. It could be concluded that there was a significant difference in students‟ vocabulary mastery between students‟ who are taught using Scattergories Game and those who are taught using Crossword Puzzle Game at the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Klaten in the Academic year 2017/2018. Therefore, it implied that scattergories game is an appropriate media to enrich students‟ vocabulary mastery.
