English Education Department, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor : Dr. H. Sujito, M.Pd Key Words : Reading comprehension, Guided Reading Strategy, Descriptive text Guided Reading Strategy is a strategy especially designed for struggling readers. There are three stages in this strategy represent before, during, and after stages of all reading lesson format. The objective of this research is to find out The Effectiveness of Guided Reading Strategy to Teach Reading Comprehension at the Tenth Grade of SMK Batur Jaya 2 Klaten in Academic Year 2017/2018. This research is a quantitative and use experimental design. The researcher used quasi experimental. This research was carried out in SMK Batur Jaya 2 Klaten in academic year 2017/2018. The population of this research was the ten grade students of SMK Batur Jaya 2 Klaten, the total number of population was 197 students. The researcher choose sample is class X AK as experimental class and X KI as control class. The researcher by using purposive sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher observe by using pre-test, treatment and post-test with 40 multiple choice as scoring. Then data is analysed using t-test formula. The research finding shows that Guided Reading Strategy is effective to teach reading comprehension for the tenth grade students of SMK Batur Jaya 2 Klaten. It can be proved from the calculation of t-test. The result of the t-test in post-test shows that t-observed is higher than t table (3.445 >1.668) for level significance of 0.05 (5%). It means there is same in post test score between experimental class and control class, the average score of post-test in experimental class is 79.70 and control class is 79.64. It can be concluded that the students in experimental class has higher achievement than the students in control class. Therefore, the application of Guided Reading Strategy in experimental class is effective than Monitoring Comprehension Strategy in control class.
