Abstract

Siti, Na‟imah. 2018. The English Material Relevancy on The English Textbook of SMA/SMK for The Eleventh Grade Written By Mahrukh Bashir Based on 2013 Curriculum for Vocational High School with The English for Specific Purposes Aspect. Thesis. English Education Deartment, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor : Dr. H. Giyoto, M. Hum. Keyword : English material, textbook, Vocational High School, English for Secific Purposes. The problem of this research is English material development for the vocational high school which is delivered on the textbook. The objective of the study is to know the relevancy of those materials then measured with the English for Specific Purposes aspects which are stated by Tom Hutchinson and Alan Waters. The research was descriptive qualitative. The researcher used content of documentation technique to obtain the data which were the materials on the English textbook. The obtained data were analyzed by reducting into specific and satured from the whole data on the textbook. The researcher arranged the data and displayed them into the table to take the score by using 0 for the data which does not match with the criteria of ESP; 1 for partly match; and 2 for closely match. After the data had been scored, the researcher took the final result by counting them into percentage to know the relevancy. The percentage was drawn into the final score using Criterion Referenced Evaluation. The result of the research shows that almost of base competency are delivered onto the textbook. The results of ESP aspects shows the percetage of relevancy for each part of criteria are audience 50%; aims 50%; content (linguistic description) 100%; content (language point) 100%; content (skill integrated work) 0%; content (micro skill) 100%; content (kind of text) 50%; content (subject matter area) 50%; content (content organised 1) 50%; content (content organised 2) 100%; content (content sequenced 1) 100%; content (content sequenced 2) 100%; methodology (exercise) 100%; mathodology (guidance) 100%; methodology (flexibility) 50%. It means that the materials on the textbook have average as 73,33% and get score B or good.
