Idah Sulistiani. 143221043. Speaking English Anxiety on Male and Female Students at the Eleventh Grade of MAN 5 Bojonegoro in Academic Year 2017/2018. Thesis. English Education Department, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor : Muntaha, M.Pd. Key words : Speaking English Anxiety, Male, Female The aims of this study are: (1) to investigate the levels of speaking English anxiety of male and female students at eleventh grade of MAN 5 Bojonegoro in academic year 2017/2018, (2) to find out the factors cause speaking English anxiety of male and female students at eleventh grade of MAN 5 Bojonegoro in academic year 2017/2018. This study was conducted from April up to May 2018 at the eleventh grade students of MAN 5 Bojonegoro. The type of this study was a descriptive quantitative approach. The subject was 23 male and 45 female students. The researcher collected the data from the questionnaire and interview. Questionnaire was analyzed by descriptive statistics and interview used interactive model analysis consists of three steps; reduction data, display data, and verification or drawing conclusion. To know validity and reliability of questionnaire, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment and Cronbach Alpha with help of SPSS version 25.0. The trustworthiness was gained through the data source triangulation and theoretical triangulation. The results of the study are: (1) the level of speaking English anxiety on male students categorized as medium anxiety level attaining 73. 9% and low anxiety level was 26.1%. And the level of speaking English anxiety on female students categorized as medium anxiety level attaining 86. 7%, low anxiety level was 2.2% and high anxiety level was 11.1%. (2) There are some factors that caused speaking English anxiety on male and female students. The first factor related to cognitive anxiety such as low English proficiency, lack of vocabulary, lack of practice and inability to express idea. The second factor related to psychological anxiety such as lack of preparation, fear of making mistakes and memory disassociation. The third factor related to social anxiety such as fear of being focus of attention. On male students, factors that most contributed were lack of vocabulary and lack of preparation attaining 83.3% which included cognitive and psychological anxiety. Meanwhile, memory disassociation was 75% became factor that most caused speaking English anxiety on female students.
