Fatnia Ulul Arfiyanti. 2018. Anticipation Guide Strategy to Increase Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text of the Eighth Grade Students of MTsN 8 Boyolali in the Academic Year 2017/2018. Thesis. English Education Department,Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor : Dr. H. Giyoto, M.Hum Key words : Anticipation Guide Strategy, Reading Comprehension The objectives of this research are: 1) to describe how the implementation of Anticipation Guide Strategy to increase reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of MTsN 8 Boyolali in the academic year 2017/2018; 2) to know how the Anticipation Guide Strategy increase student’s reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of MTsN 8 Boyolali in the academic year 2017/2018. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of the research is the eighth grade students of MTsN 8 Boyolali. This research was conducted in the even semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The implementation of Anticipation Guide Strategy by discussion. The researcher made a worksheet about a narrative text. Then, the researcher distributed the worksheet before the students read the text completely. They should fill the agrement on disagrement column based on their background knowledge. After they finished, the researcher distributed the narrative text. The student read the text. They should confirm or reject each of the statements in the worksheet. The last, the researcher asked the students to discuss their answers together. The result of the study showed that Anticipation Guide Strategy can increase students’ score in reading comprehension. It could be seen that the mean class increases by 9,63 from pre-cycle to cycle I and by 5,92 from cycle I to cycle II. The indicator of students’ reading comprehension achievement in this research is that the mean class score ≥ KKM=70 and learning’s successfully passing of ≥ 70 thus the research was done. It could be concluded that the implementation of Anticipation Guide Strategy in teaching reading can improve the students’ reading comprehension in VIII A class of MTsN 8 Boyolali.
