Abstract

ABSTRACT Ayu P, Gadis. 2018. The fourth Semester Students of English Education Department‟ Perception Towards Drama Performance as a means to Develop their English Language Skills in the Academic Year 2016/2017 IAIN Surakarta. Advisor : Arina Rohmatika, M.Pd. Key words : Students‟ perception, drama performance, basic language skills This research aims at identifying the fourth semester students of English students education department‟s perception of drama performance in developing English language skills in the 2016/2017 Academic Year. It was conduct to know the students perception of drama performance to be a medium of practice on the basic analysis of drama performance course, the implementation of drama performance and possible challenges of drama performance. This research employed qualitative research methodology. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research. This research was focus on the students‟ perception about drama performance. In collecting the data, the researcher used interview and questionnaire. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion. In the technique of analyzing data, the researcher used data triangulation and methodological triangulation. Based on this research, there are some findings. Firstly, the implementation of drama performance is medium of practice on basic analysis of drama performance in the English education department. Basic analysis of drama course divided into two parts; preparation and performance. Secondly, students‟ perceptions of drama performance helps to develop students‟ basic language skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing and language areas; pronunciation, vocabulary, and spelling. Listening divided into three parts; listening, understanding, and memorizing. Speaking divided into three parts; pronunciation, intonation, and diction. Reading divided into two parts; get the idea and new vocabularies. Reading divided into two parts; get the idea and new vocabulary. Writing divided into three parts‟ grammar, apply new vocabularies. Thirdly, the drama performance has some possible challenges; self-confidence, time management, financial, stamina to preparation.
