Abstract

The objective of this research is to know whether there is a correlation between visual learning style and students’ achievement in reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of MTs N Boyolali in academic year of 2016/2017. This research was carried out in MTs N Boyolali from February to May 2016. The researcher method was a quantitative correlation research. The population is all the eighth grade students of MTs N Boyolali in academic year 2016/2017. Consist of 358 students and it consist of 1ten classes namely VIII A, VIII B, VIII C, VIII D, VIII E, VIII F, VIII G, VIII H, VIII I and VIII J. The samples of this research were eighth grade students of VIII H. The samples of the research consist of 34 students. Sampling is a technique cluster random sampling. Technique of collecting data are questionnaire for visual learning style and test for reading comprehension. The technique which was used to analyze data was simple linear regression. The result of the study shows that (1) there is a significant correlation between visual learning style and students’ achievement in reading comprehension because the coefficient of correlation r-obtained is higher than r- table (0.637) > 0.361). From the result of the research, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between visual learning style and students’ achievement in reading comprehension. Therefore, visual learning style has contribution in increasing reading comprehension.
