English Education Department, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor: Hj.Fithriyah Nurul Hidayati, M.Pd Keywords: Instructional Design, Teaching Writing, 2013 Curriculum The objective of the research is to describe the instructional design of teaching writing based on 2013 curriculum at the eleventh grade of boarding school MAN 1 Surakarta. In this research, there are six components of instructional design in the teaching writing that the researcher analyze, namely (1) Learning objectives, (2) Instructional materials, (3) Teaching method, (4) Classroom Procedure, (5) Teaching media, (6) Assessment In conducting this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative research. In collecting data, the researcher uses interview and documentation. The data were analyzed by: (1) Collecting the data, (2) Reducing the data, (2) Displaying the data, (3) Drawing conclusion. The researcher uses data triangulation to get validity of data. The result of this research shows that: (1) The steps in determining and formulating learning objectives of teaching writing based on 2013 curriculum such as understanding of the characteristics or condition of students, writing the core competence (KI) and basic competence (KD). (2) The steps in designing and selecting the instructional material such as preparing the syllabus, conducting the research to identify the availability of materials, evaluating existing instructional materials, arranging the materials based in the order of syllabus, prepares and adopting the materials, preparing learning activities. (3) The steps in determining and selecting teaching method such as determining the learning objectives, select the method based on the learning objectives and the skill that has been developed, choose the technique that allows the students to do more learning activities. (4) The steps in designing of classroom procedure there are three stages such as opening, main activity based on 2013 curriculum that is scientific approach consists of observing, questioning, exploring, associating, and communicating, and closing. (5) The steps in determining and selecting of teaching media such as determining whether the use of media for the information or learning purposes, determining of the characteristics of the lesson, media classification, analyze the characteristics the media itself there are the strengths and weaknesses of the media. (6) The steps in designing of assessment such as determining of objectives, determining the scope of the material be assessed, determining of assessment techniques to be used, instrument development, doing measurements, processing of measurements results and interpretation of assessment results.
