Abstract

ABSTRACT Implementation of workplace based education management to improve quality of teacher competence at the Islamic and Integrated Senior High School of Nur Hidayah in Kartasura (Putri Irma Solikhah) Teachers have a strategic role in the development of education, thus improving the quality of teachers is the main agenda of education. However, the low quality of teachers shows the ineffectiveness of the program. Workplace-based education is the educational potential in improving the quality of teacher. This study aims at determining management concept, implementation of management, supporting and inhibiting factors of workplace-based education management impelemtation in the Islamic and Integrated Senior High School of Nur Hidayah Kartasura. This study was a qualitative research. This research was conducted at the Islamic and Integrated Senior High School of Nur Hidayah in Kartasura, in October to December 2014. The subjects were the principal and teachers. The informants were the vice principal, the school development team, and students. Data were collected with in-depth interviews, participant observation and documentation. Data were validated with triangulation in technique and method. Data were analyzed with interactive model that includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study indicate that (1) The concept of workplace-based education at the Islamic and Integrated Senior High School of Nur Hidayah in Kartasura is the implementation of Tarbiyah movement vision that brought the school to become an Islamic school that is able to prepare the smart generation, cultured, and competitive. It provides direct consequences for school to educate their teachers. Education is directed toward the creation of a learning culture oriented to continuous quality improvement. The curriculum is being adapted to the real needs of teachers in the workplace. (2) Workplace-based education directed at the improvement of pedagogical, professional, personal, social, and Islamic competence. Education is implemented through programs: halaqa, training, provision of learning resources, and the provision of learning tasks. (3) Supporting factors are the commitment of all stakeholders to improve the quality of human resources and teachers' awareness of the importance of increasing competences. While inhibiting factors are the shortage of funds and facilitator/educator, and there is no systematic evaluation system to measure the success of the program.
