Abstract

ABSTRACT Elma Pungky A, 133221335. AN ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH FINAL TEST FOR THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MAN 2 BOYOLALI IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2016/2017. A thesis : The State of Islamic Institute of Surakarta, 2017 Advisor : Dr. Yusti Arini, M.Pd Keywords : Final test, item analysis, difficulty level, discriminating power, effectiveness of distractor. Test is a way or procedure in order to measuring and assassement in education, that can be organized as assignment (Sudijono, 2012:67). The aims of this research is to find out the difficulty index, discriminating power, and the effectiveness of distractors. This research is a descriptive quantitative study. The researcher employed the descriptive method because the objective of the research is to describe the identification of the multiple choice items of English final test. In addition this research is also using a numerical data which is analyzed statistically. This research described the result of numerical computation of the data using Arifin‟s theory. The result of this research shows that for the difficulty level, there are 76% categorized as difficult item, 24% categorized as marginal item, and 0% categorized as easy item. For the discriminating power, there are 26% categorized as very good item, 24% categorized as reasonably good, 20% categorized as marginal item, and 30% categorized as poor item. For the effectiveness of distractor, there are 48% categorized as effective distractor of each option, 52% categorized as ineffective distractor of each option. In the end of this research, this test included as standardized test made by the teacher, the researcher suggested to the teacher when they are make an English question should be balanced, even it in difficulty level, discriminating power or the effectiveness of distractor, so that the item was able to distinguish between students who master the material and students who do not master the material. Also, the teacher should improve their capablility in making standardized test to get the good quality of the test.
