The Correlation Between Metacognitive Reading Srategy, Vocabulary Mastery, and Students’ Reading Comprehension on the Eighth Grade Students of MTs N Surakarta 1 in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. Thesis. Surakarta. English Education Department. Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor : Zainal Arifin, S.Pd., M.Pd Keyword : Metacognitive Reading Strategy, Vocabulary Mastery, Reading Comprehension The research problem is focussed on the correlation between metacognitive reading strategy, vocabulary mastery and students’ reading comprehension. Then, the objective of this study is to know the correlation between metacognitive reading strategy, vocabulary mastery and students’ reading comprehension on the eighth grade students of MTs N Surakarta 1 in the academic year of 2016/2017. This is a quantitative research. The researcher used correlational research design. The research was conducted at MTs N Surakarta 1 started from April 21st until May 6th 2017. The population of this research is all the eighth grade students of MTs N Surakarta 1 in the academic year of 2016/2017. The sum of population is 305 students. The sample of test in this study is 85 students that consist of 8PK1, 8FD2 and 8A.The sampling technique that used is proportionate cluster random sampling. The techniques of collecting data used the tests and questionnair. The techniques of analyzing data used simple and multiple linear regression and pearson product moment formula. To test the hypothesis, the researcher used SPSS 20 for windows. The result of analysis shows that at the level of significance α = 0.05 for N = 85 with the r-table (0.213 ). For the first hyphothesis, there is a positive correlation between metacognitive reading strategy (X1) and students’ reading comprehension ( Y). It is because r0btained( rx1y ) is higher than rtable ( 0.836 > 0.213). The constribution of students’ metacognitive reading strategy toward reading comprehension is 69.8%. For the second hyphothesis, there is a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery (X2) and students’ reading comprehension ( Y). It is because r0btained( rx2y ) is higher than rtable ( 0.639 > 0.213 ). The constribution of students’ metacognitive reading strategy toward reading comprehension is 40.9%. Then, for the third hyphothesis, there is a positive correlation between metacognitive reading strategy (X1), vocabulary mastery (X2 ) and students’ reading comprehension ( Y). It is because F0btained( rx1,x2y ) is higher than ftable ( 100.371> 3.11 ). The constribution of students’ metacognitive reading strategy and vocabulary mastery toward students’ reading comprehension is 71%. It means that 71% of students’ reading comprehension is influenced by metacognitive reading strategy and vocabulary mastery, then the other is 39 % is influenced by other factors.
