Abstract

Key words : English Mid-term test, Item Analysis, Qualitative Analysis, Quantitative Analysis The objectivesof this research is 1) Describing the quality of English Midterm test for the second semester of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Wonosari in the 2015/2016 academic year in qualitative includes material, construction and language aspects, 2) Describing the quality of English Mid-term test for the second semester of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Wonosari in the 2015/2016 academic year based in quantitative includes level of difficulty, discriminating power and effectiveness of distractors. This research design is qualitative and quantitative approach. Qualitative approach in this research used to to show which one is good item, medium item and poor item of English mid-term test items for the second semester of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Wonosari in the 2015/2016 academic year by checking and describing toward the study document of multiple choice item while quantitative approach used for identifying the level of difficulty, the discriminating power, and the effectiveness of distractors of English mid-term test items for the second semester of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Wonosari in the 2015/2016 academic year.The technique of collecting the data is study document.Qualitative method to analyze the data is using study of multiple choice item and quantitative method in analyzing the data is using formula by Arikunto. The data taken from the test result of 54 students answer sheets of three classes (F, G and H class) by using stratified random sampling. The result of the research shows that: 1) qualitative analysis result covers material, construction and language aspects found that 33 items (66%) have met as good items and 16 items (32%) as medium items and 1 item (2%) as poor item, 2) quantitative analysis result covers difficulty level, discriminating power and effectiveness of distractor found that 7 items (14%) are good items, 34 items (68%) are marginal items and 9 items (18%) are poor items.
