Abstract

ABSTRACT Fitri Ariani 13.32.2.1.325. “Teaching Learning Process of Reading Narrative Text at the Eight Grade Students of SMP N 2 Jogonalan in Academic Year 2016/2017.” Thesis, English Education, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty, Stated Islamic Institute of Surakarta. Advisor : Fithriyah Nurul Hidayati, M.Pd Key words : Teaching Learning Process, Reading, Narrative Text The objectives of the study are to investigate teaching learning process in reading narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Jogonalan in academic year 2016/2017. The first aims of this research is describe the teaching learning process of reading narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Jogonalan in academic year 2016/2017 especially focus on the materials, the methods and the evaluation. Second, this research is aimed to describe what are the problem faced by the lecturer in teaching reading narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Jogonalan in academic year 2016/2017. This is a descriptive qualitative. The research was conducted in January 2017. The subject of research was the students of A, B and D eighth class of SMP N 2 Jogonalan in academic year 2016/2017. There were 36 students in every class. The techniques of collecting the data are interview, observation, and document. The researcher uses technique of analyzing the data from Miles and Huberman. The steps to analyzing the data for the first is data collection, the researcher collecting the data from the teachers like a the field note, the interview, RPP, syllabus, the material, the assignment of the teacher and the students. The second is data reduction, the researcher classifies and reduces the data based on the research focus. The researcher deletes several data in the field note, the interview that did not related with the teaching learning process of reading narrative text. And the third is data display, the researcher arranging the information description in order to draw the conclusion. The researcher presents the data from teaching learning process of reading narrative text. And the last is conclusion, the researcher likely to written not only what the researcher has been each day but also the researcher interpretation of those observation. The result of the research shows that first, teaching learning process is using Genre Based Approach. The material in every class is different. A Class is very active in the classroom, B class is the middle active in the class and the last is D Class, and they are lazy in the classroom. The teachers have taken the materials from the text book, LKS. The other sources is from internet related to the themes or lesson like a video related to the topic or themes. The last teaching learning process in reading narrative text is the evaluation, the teacher uses written response and matching tasks to evaluate the students ability. Second, the problems faced by the teacher in teaching reading narrative text are (1) managing class, (2) different ability or knowledge, (3) limited vocabulary, (4) and lack of pupil interest in teaching reading narrative text.
