Abstract

Thesis. Surakarta: English Education Program, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor : Hj. Suprapti, M.Pd. Key Words : Correlation Study, Qur’an Memorization, Speaking Ability The objective of the research is to find whether there is the correlation between level of Qur’an memorization and speaking ability for the eleventh grade students in SMA IT Nur Hidayah who live in the learning home. This research is correlation study. The research was carried out at SMA IT Nur Hidayah learning home in December 2016 – March 2018. The population of this study was the eleventh grade students of SMA IT Nur Hidayah learning home in the Academic Year 2016/2017. The sample of this study is the eleventh grade students of tahfidz program, consisting of 42 students to be the subject of the research. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The instrument in collecting the data is documentation. The researcher used Pearson Product Moment formula to know the coefficient correlation between students’ level of Qur’an memorization (X) toward speaking ability (Y). The results of the research is there is positive correlation between level of Qur’an memorization (X) and speaking ability (Y) because the coefficient of correlation r-obtained is higher than r-table (rxy = 0,57 > rtable = 0,304) and the contribution of students’ level of Qur’an memorization to speaking ability is 32,5%. So, the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. The conclusion of this research is there is correlation between level of Qur’an memorization (X) and speaking ability (Y). The correlation of this research is weak, because the contribution of students’ level of Qur’an memorization to speaking ability is 32,5%, while the other 67,5 is contributed by other factors.
