Abstract

This thesis describes the teaching speaking techniques in E-FUN Institute Klaten. Based on the pre observation, the researcher found that the teacher used some techniques in teaching speaking. The objective of this study is to describe the techniques used by the teachers in teaching speaking in E-FUN Institute Klaten which is viewed from the teaching learning activity in the class. Furthermore, it is also aimed to know the challenges faced by the teachers and the students in teaching leaning speaking in E-FUN Institute Klaten. This research was carried out in Express English Program of E-FUN Institute Klaten in September until December 2017. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects of this research are the teachers and the students of Express English Program in E-FUN Institute Klaten. The techniques of collecting the data in this research were observation, interview, documentation, and documents such as the syllabus, lesson plan, and teaching materials. In analyzing the data, the researcher used three steps such as reduction of the data, presenting the data, and drawing the conclusion. Based on the data obtained, the result of the research shows that the teachers used some techniques on teaching speaking class. These techniques are game and role plays. The result of her research also shows that there are some challenges faced by the teachers and the students in teaching-learning speaking class. The teachers get challenges on how to motivate the students to speak in English and manage the class. Meanwhile, the students get the challenge on how to decrease some inhibitions that disturb their speaking skill. Moreover, the students also get the challenge on how to decrease the use of mother tongue.
