Abstract

In the field of education, evaluation is needed to reach the result of education development. One of the way knowing the result that is reached by the teacher in the study learning process is by evaluation. The aim of this research is to describe the difficulty index, the discriminating power, and the effectiveness distractors. Descriptive with quantitative approach was use to collec data and document. The data was taken from the English midterm test for the first semester of the seventh grade students of MTs PPMI Assalaam Surakarta in the 2017/2018 academic year. The result of the research shows that for the difficulty index, there are 2,5% difficult item, 60% medium items, and 37,5% easy item. For the discriminating power, there are 12,5% poor item, 2,5% marginal items, 2,5% reasonably good items, and 82,5% very good items. For the effectiveness distractor, there are 54% functioning distractors 21% poor distractors, and 25% not functioning distractors. From the description above it can be conclude that the quality of the mid-term test of the seventh grade students of MTs PPMI Assalaam Surakarta in the 2017/2018 academic for difficulty index are poor because only one item that difficult mean while most of the test items belongs to medium. For the discriminating power analysis can be concluded the test items belongs to very good item, and the items are accepted well. For the effectiveness of distractor that are functioning properly and the distractors are accepted well. In light of the result from the research, it is recomended that the teacher as a test makers should really know the condition of the student if it wants produce good quality of the test. In addition, teachers should develop questions that have a prposional difficulty level. Teachers must be able to make of the test with the high coefficient of the discriminating power, so that the item was able to distinguish between students who master the material with students they do not master the material. For the option should be homogeneous reviewed in terms of material. It means that all the options should derived from the same material as that contained in the subject matter, the writing should be equivalent, and all the options should be functioning.
