Abstract

The objective of this research are: (1) To describe the implementation of EGRA technique in teaching writing skill of recount text in eighth grade students of MTs N 6 Boyolali in the academic year 2017/ 2018. (2) To identify the improvement of students writing skill of recount text in the eighth grade of MTs N 6 Boyolali in the academic year 2017/ 2018 by EGRA technique. This research is classroom action research. This research conducted at MTs N 6 Boyolali from March 2018 until May 2018. The subjects of this research was VIII F class students of MTs N 6 Boyolali in academic year of 2017/2018. This research conducted in two cycles of action with three meetings in cycle 1 and two meetings in cycle 2. In every findings of cycles onsisted of planning, implementing, observing, reflecting. The data were collected by observation, interview, and test (pre-test and post-test) .Then, the data were analyzed by qualitative (data reducing, data display, and conclusion drawing) and quantitative data analysis (descriptive statistic). The research finding showed that there was improvement of students’ writing kill and class situation of English class. The use of EGRA technique could improve the positive writing class situation and the students’ writing skill on recount text. The score of Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) of English lesson is 67. The improvement of students’ writing skill can be seen from the improvement of the mean score of pre-test, post-test cycle 1 and post-test cycle 2, which is 43.55, 58.56 and 70.27. While, the improvement of classroom situation and students’ activity during teaching and learning process occurred includes: (1) The student became more active. (2) They have more enthusiasm and enjoy in teaching learning process. EGRA technique is used in two meeting to increase the students’ focus in learning process. And the procedure of implementing EGRA technique in teaching writing skill of recount text is: Experience; giving the students picture and text to lead the students about the material that will be taught in oral practice. Generalization; asking the students to make group and asks them to work the task, presenting of the result, then researcher gives example of correct pronunciation of the students answer. Reinforcement; discussing the students answer and gives feedback, giving drill about it and short explanation then giving task that is worked in pair. Application; the students work the task related to the material which had learned individually. In conclusion, the implementation of EGRA technique can improve students’ writing skill on recount text and students’ positive activity in English class. The researcher hopes that it will inspire the English teachers to use EGRA technique in their English class.
