Abstract

The objectives of the research are to determine the significant correlation between (1) Parents’ Educational Level and Students’ English Achievement; (2) Students’ Learning Motivation and Students’ English Achievement; (3) Parents’ Educational Level and Students’ Learning Motivation toward Students’ English Achievement at the eleventh grade students of MA Al-Islam Jamsaren Surakarta in the academic year 2017/2018. This research used correlation design that focuses on three variables. It was carried out at MA Al-Islam Jamsaren Surakarta. The population of this study is all the eleventh grade students of MA Al-Islam Jamsaren Surakarta, consists of 74 from three classes at the eleventh grade students in the academic years of 2017/2018. By using simple random sampling, the researcher took 37 students as a try-out class and 37 students as the sample class. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire to get the data of parents’ educational level and students’ learning motivation and the researcher used document to get the data of students’ English achievement. The technique used to analyze the data was Pearson Product Moment formula through SPSS 17.0 for windows. The results of the research are: (1) there is a positive significant correlation between parents’ educational level (X1) and students’ English achievement (Y) because the coefficient of correlation Rxy is more than 0 (0.623 > 0). The contribution of parents’ educational level to students’ English achievement is 38,8%. (2) there is a positive significant correlation between students’ learning motivation (X2) and students’ English achievement (Y) because the coefficient of correlation Rxy is more than 0 (0.667>0). The contribution of learning motivation to students’ English achievement is 44,5% (3) there is a positive significant correlation between parents’ educational level and students’ learning motivation toward students’ English achievement because the coefficient of correlation Rxy is more than 0 (0.712>0). The contribution of parents’ educational level and students’ learning motivation toward students’ English achievement is 50,7%.
