Abstract

ABSTRACT Fista Sixnori.2017.The Effectiveness of Using Two Stay Two Stray Technique to Teach Speaking Skill at the SeventhGrade Student SMPN 3 Teras in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. Thesis. English Education Department. Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor : Hj. Suprapti.M,Pd Key Words : Speaking, Two Stay Two Stray, Procedure text. Two Stay Two Stray is an interactive technique that encourages the participants to be more creative and active in group work. This research is about using Two Stay Two Stray technique for teaching speaking in junior high school. This research aimed to find out whether or not Two Stay Two Stray technique is effective to teach speaking at the seventh grade of SMP N 3 Teras in academic year 2016/2017. The research design used was quasi experimental research. The subject of the research was seventh grade students of SMPN 3 Teras in academic year 2016/2017. The total number of the students of seventh grade were 260 students, the seventh grade consist of 6 classes. The sample of the research were 48 students chosen by cluster random sampling technique. The researcher used test as the instrument of technique collecting the data, test Spoken were used as the instruments to collect the data and information. In this research, the researcher used genre based on syllabus with the theme is Procedure text, with eight meeting to experimental and control class. The result of the pre-test showed that the mean score of the experimental group was 63.08 and the mean score of the control group was 66.875. After the treatment, the mean score of experimental group was 67.875 and the mean score of control group was 73.08. It could be seen that there was an improvement after the treatments dealing with their speaking skill. From the t-test computation of the post-test score, the t-value was higher than t-table(t-value > t-table = 6.14> 2.021). Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and the working hypothesis was accepted. It means that there is a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. The results indicate that Two Stay Two Stray technique is effective in improving the speaking skill at the seventhgraders of SMP Negeri 3 Teras in the academic year of 2016/2017. It is suggested that the findings of this study could be applied regularly and continuously or developed by the English teachers to have a better speaking teaching.
