Abstract

Communication skill in the sell and buy transaction between seller and buyer is very necessary. Communication skill will be give an effect to the all human activities, culture from every people will be give an effect in the communication progress, because communication is the part of someone culture. Which someone has, which someone habit, actually will be use when we communicating with the other people. Because of that, need a true communication patterns for communication. The purpose of this research is for get a representation about communication pattern between seller in the West Beringharjo Market and the foreign tourist. The research method used is qualitative descriptive analysis with a review of intercultural communication then interpreted with scientific references for see the communication pattern that used by seller for communicate with foreign tourist. The data collection was taken from direct observation, picture, text, and interview with an informant that knowing and do directly in the interaction communication. The data analysis is used primer communication pattern that is like a verbal code and nonverbal and used intercultural communication that investigate communication components and anything that must be notice when we communicate with the other people that has a different culture with us. The result of this research is a representation the communication pattern that used by West Bringharjo Market seller with foreign tourist with using verbal code and nonverbal. Between the pattern is using verbal language that often saying by seller and foreign tourist like how much, thakyou, the numerals like fourty, eighty, and etc. While the communication pattern, used nonverbal communication pattern like hand sign, finger sign, and write the price in the calculator. That transaction communication pattern happen with the different culture people, tourist from Europe (Germany, Sidney, England) will has the different character with the Asian (Malaysian, Japan, Korean) tourist, the European tourist people are more friendly than Asian tourist people and more liked by seller, because when European people bargain the price is not high. But Asian people more stingy and when bargain the price is very high, Asian tourist people often not buying the item that has been bargained before.
