Abstract

ABSTRACT Febriani Astuti, 2017. “Improving Students’ Skill In Writing Recount Text Using Animated Videos ( A Classroom Action Research on The Tenth Grade Students in MAN 3 Sragen in The Academic Year 2016/2017 )”. Giyoto, M.Hum Keywords : Classroom Action Research, Audio-visual media, Writing This thesis presents an analysis on the implementation of audio-visual media to improve students’ writing skill. Based on the problems found in the pretest result, the objective of the research is to know whether animated videos can improve the writing skill of the tenth grade students in MAN 3 Sragen in the academic year 2016/2017. The data were the score test taken from the tenth grade students of MAN 3 Sragen in academic year of 2016/2017. The students will be limited to the X IPS which onsists of 20 students. Test is used as a technique to measure students’ ability. The test here is the writing test that is held before the treatment, after cycle 1, and after cycle 2. The researcher used a mix scoring guide from Brown and Bailey (1984) and Heaton (1988) to score the students’ writing. Based on the research, it has been found that mean score of pre-test is 57,45. This score was used as the guide for the researcher to examine students’ development. After knowing the problems of the students from the result of pretest, the researcher made a lesson plan of cycle I with a refreshing method and media which may trigger students’ attention in learning English, especially in writing. The mean score of post-test in cycle I is 65,6. While the mean score of the result of the test in cycle II is 77,95. By comparing the mean score of pre-test, post-test cycle I and post-test cycle II, it tells that there is an improvement in students’ writing skill, especially in writing recount text.
