Abstract

Khusna Fauziyah. 2017. the effectiveness of using community language learning (cll) to teach students’ mastery of speaking skill for transactional conversation. Thesis. English Education Department. Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor :Dr. Hj Woro Retnaningsih M.Pd Key Words : Speaking, CLL, Experimental. This research is aimed at finding out whether using Community language learning is effective for teaching speaking in junior high school. Community language learning is a method that represents the use of counseling-learning theory to teach language. This research aimed to find out whether Community language learning is effective to teach speaking at the eighth graders of SMP Al-Islam 1 Surakarta in academic year 2017/2018. The research design was quasi experimental research. Spoken tests were used as the instruments to collect the data and information. The researcher used class VIII E as the experimental group and VIII D as the control group. Both classes were in the same level, background, and competence. The result of the pre-test showed that the mean score of the experimental group was 66.38 and the mean score of the control group was 62.77. After the treatment, the mean score of experimental group was 71.58 and the mean score of control group was 68.92. It could be seen that there was an improvement after the treatments dealing with their speaking skill. From the t-test computation of the post-test score, the tobserved was higher than ttable (tobserved > ttable = 2,228> 1,29907) Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and the working hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. The results indicate that Community Language Learning is effective in improve the speaking skill at the eighth grade of SMP Al-Islam Surakarta in the academic year of 2017/2018. It is suggested that the findings of this study could be applied regularly and countinously or developed by the English teachers to have a better teaching speaking.
