Abstract

ABSTRACT Susi Solikhah. 13.32.2.1.167. “A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF USING JIGSAW TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING ENGLISH AT SEVENTH GRADE OF SMP AL AZHAR SYIFA BUDI SOLO IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018.” Thesis, English Education, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty, The State Islamic Institute of Surakarta. Advisor : Dr. Rochmad Budi Santoso, M.Pd Key words : Teaching, Cooperative learning, Jigsaw. This research is aimed to describe using jigsaw technique in teaching English at seventh grade of SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo in academic year 2017/2018. There are two objectives in this research, they are; 1) Describing how the implementation of using Jigsaw technique in teaching English at seventh grade of SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo in academic years 2017/2018. 2) Identifying the difficulties of using jigsaw technique in teaching English at seventh grade of SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo in academic years 2017/2018. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher conducted the research in March-September 2017. The subject of this research is two classes of seventh grade in SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo. They were students in the class. Each class was 20 students. The techniques of the collecting the data used by the researcher are observation, documentation and interview. In this study the researcher using triangulation method. The result of this research shows that: 1) The implementation of using jigsaw technique in teaching English include the material, media, procedure, and evaluation that used by the teacher in teaching English using jigsaw technique. The procedures of using jigsaw technique in teaching English include five steps, there are; (1) Listening, the teacher show video then students listen and attention, (2) Speaking, the teacher give assignments to students, speaking used to communication with the member of group, (3) cooperation was do when the teacher give assignments in each group, (4) reflective thinking, the students were share the result discussion of original group to the other groups, (5) creative thinking, this step groups must devise new ways of approaching, teaching and presenting. Each group has one member as leader to presentation result of discuss in front of class. 2) The difficulties of the teacher using jigsaw technique in teaching English are divided students on the group and management class
