Abstract

The objectives of the research are to determine the correlational between (1) emotional quotient (EQ) and the English achievement; (2) learning strategy and the English achievement; (3) emotional quotient (EQ), learning strategy and the English achievement. This research is correlational study. The research was carried out at SMA N 1 Nogosari in May 2017. The population of this study was the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Nogosari in Academic Year 2016/2017. The sample of this research conducted onX2 class, consisting of 25 students to be the subject of the research. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. The instruments in collecting the data were document and questionnaire. The questionnaire was used to get the data of emotional quotient and lerning strategy. The researcher used Pearson Product Moment formula to know the coefficient correlation between emotional quotient (X1) the English achievement (Y) and learning strategy (X2) the English achievement (Y), while to correlate emotional quotient (X1) learning strategy (X2) andthe English achievement (Y) the researcher used multiple linier regression. The results of the research are (1) there is positive correlational between emotional quotient (X1) and the English achievement (Y) because the coefficient of correlational robtained is higher than rtable (0.755> 0.396) and the contribution of emotional quotient to English achievement is 57.0%. (2) there is positive correlational between learning strategy (X2) and the English achievement (Y) because the coefficient of correlation robtained is higher than rtable (0.765> 0.396) and the contribution of learning strategy to English achievement is 58.5%. (3) there is positive correlation between emotional quotient (X1) learning strategy (X2) and the English achievement (Y) because Fobtained is higher than Ftable (16.084>3.44) and the contribution of emotional quotient,learning strategyand the English achievement is 59.4%. So, alternative hypothesis is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. The conclusion of this research is there is positive correlational between emotional quotient,learning strategy and the English achievement.
