Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness in students‟ speaking skill between students taught by Digital storytelling to teach speaking narrative text at the eleventh grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Kartasurain academic year 2017/2018. The research used quantitative approach with experimental method. The researcher used quasi-experimental design. The population was all the students of eleventh grade students in SMK Muhammadiyah Kartasurain academic year 2017/2018. The students of experimental class were taught by Digital Storytelling and those of control class were by storytelling. The Digital Storytelling and Storytelling are media that can be used to support teaching learning process in the classroom. Both of them can be used by teacher to convey the material to the students. The researcher used cluster random sampling to determine the subject of research. The researcher took 54 students from total 160 students as the sample. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the data. To analyze the data, the researcher used t-test by using SPSS. The result of this research show that the post test result showed the mean score of the experimental class was higher than the control class. The data were obtained from students‟ achievement score of the post test of speaking skill of narrative text. That is post test scores from the experimental class. from the data the researcher gets the score of post test, the data showed that the lowest score was 60 and the highest score was 85. The mean was 72,78, the standart deviation is 8.807, the mode is 65 , the median is 70.00. The result of t-test showed that Sig.(2-tailed) 0.002 that is lower than 0.05. It means that in teaching speaking, students who were taught using Digital Storytelling have higher score than those who were taught using Storytelling method.
