THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION AND VOCABULARY MASTERY TOWARD STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF BOARDING SCHOOL SMA WALISONGO KARANGMALANG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018. Advisor: Arina Rohmatika, S.Pd.,M.Pd Keywords: extrinsic motivation, vocabulary mastery, speaking ability. The purpose of this research are to know the correlation between students’ extrinsic motivation, and vocabulary mastery toward students’ speaking ability at the tenth grade of SMA Walisongo Karangmalang in academic year 2017/2018. The objectives of this research are to find out the correlation between students’ extrinsic motivation, and vocabulary mastery toward students’ speaking ability. This research used quantitative method, it was correlation study. The population was all the tenth grade students of SMA Walisongo Karangmalang which consist of four classes from X IPA 1, X IPA 2, X IPS 1, and X IPS 2. The total number of the students was 120 students. The sample was 30 students taken by simple random sampling technique. The instruments in collecting data were questionnaire and test. The questionnaire was used to collect the data of students’ extrinsic motivation, while the test was used to collect the data of vocabulary mastery and speaking ability. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment Formula and multiple linear regression which counted manually. The result of the analysis shows that (1) there is positive correlation between students’ extrinsic motivation and speaking ability (
