Abstract

ABSTRACT Adinda Akfini, 2018. THE CORRELATION BETWEEN EMOTIOANL INTELLIGENCE AND STUDENTS’ FAMILY ENVIRONMENT TOWARD STUDENTS ENGLISH ACHIEVEMENT AT THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 1 CAWAS IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018. A thesis. Surakarta: English Education Program, Islamic Education and Teacher Training Faculty. Advisor Dr.Sujito, M.Pd Keyword : Emotional Intelligence, Family Environment, and Students English Achievement The objectives of the research are : 1) to find out whether there is positive significant correlation between emotional intelligence and students’ English achievement, 2) to find out whether there is significant correlation between family environment and students’ English achievement, 3) to find out whether there is significant correlation between emotional intelligence and students’ environment toward students’ English achievement. This research is a correlation study. Techniques of collecting the data are by using questionnaires and documentation. The population is all of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Cawas. In the process of collecting data, the researcher used systematic random sampling to get the sample. The researcher took every 9th students of population as the sample. So the researcher took 30 students in all classes of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Cawas. The result of this research showed that there was significant correlation between emotional intelligence and English achievement. It can be seen from the result of correlations. The significant (p-value) < α, 0.000 < 0.05. Rxy was 0.784. It meant that emotioanl intelligence and English achievement had correlation. The good emotional intelligence followed by good English achievement. Then, there was significant correlation between family environment and English achievement. It can be seen from the result of correlations. The significant (p- value) < α, 0.000 < 0.05. Rxy was 0.618. It meant that family environment and English achievement had correlation. The good family environment followed by good English achievement. Then, there was significant correlation between emotional intelligence, family environment, and English achievement. The result of significant Fchange was 0.000 < 0.05, it meant that emotional intelligence, family environment, and English achievement had correlation. Rxy was 0.925, it meant that emotional intelligence, family environment, and English achievement.
