Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is carried out with regard to the phenomenon of lack of competence of teachers. This research focuses on the problems internal and external of teachers in learning activities. The purpose of this study is to determine: 1) The problem of the teaching profession, 2) Improvement the quality of education at the Islamic State Junior High School of Nguntoronadi. This research used descriptive qualitative research approach. Location of research was the Islamic State Junior High School of Nguntoronadi in district Wonogiri. The research subject were teachers and students. Informants were headmaster, vice headmaster, administrative staff and chairman of the school committee. Data were collected with observation, interview, and documentation. Data were validated with triangulation in sources and methods. Data were analyzed with interactive model. The model consisted of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The result indicates that: 1) the problem of teacher is from internal problem, which include׃ (a) pedagogical competencies, that lack in class controlling, poor innovation and creativity, less reading, and less mastered a good assessment techniques and not even master the learning media based on information technology (IT), (b) professional competence, that less mastered in material, (c) personal competence, that less love the proffesion. In other line, there is external problem such as׃ over students in the classroom, learning situation, and also limiting sources dan facilities. 2) Solutions / efforts made to overcome these problems are to empower human resources and facilities that are already owned at school to support the improvement of the quality of education, among others are: for internal problem (a) pedagogical competence done by workshop and assessment, education and functional training (on-service education), in House Training, supervision/oversight, jurnalistic workshop, and training on using teching and learning media and comparative study. (b) professional competence done by collaboration action research (CAR), KKG/MGMP (in-service education) and (c) personal competence by personal approach, problem solving, self evaluation and for teachers or staff are given the opportunity to continue their study to a higher level (pre-service education). In other line, the external problem is used by making private class, making emergency class, using PAIKEM learning and media based IT, optimalizing media, exeplary principals, dicipline of come and out class, and optimalizing the functional of library.
