Visia Puspitosari. 2015. A Descriptive Study of using Pictures in student’s Narrative Writing process (A Qualitative Study of the Second Grade Students of SMP N 3 Nguter Sukoharjo in Academic Year 2014/2015). Thesis, English Education Departement, Islamic Education and Teaching Training Faculty, State Islamic Institute of Surakarta. This research is intended to describe the implementation of using pictures in student‟s narrative writing process, the difficulties faced by the teacher and students, and the students achievement by using pictures in student‟s narrative writing process at SMP N 3 Nguter Sukoharjo in academic year 2014/2015. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. The population of the research is all of the VIIIE students of SMP N 3 Nguter in the academic year 2014/2015, consisting of 25 students as the sample. The instruments in collecting the data are the researcher, camera and note book. The researcher was the main instrument to look for the data or information, while camera and notebook were used as supporting instruments. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Miles and Huberman model of data analysis there were three main components. They were data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Before the researcher analyzed the data, she collected the data from three techniques which were used namely observation, interview, and documentation. The research showed that (1) the implementation of using pictures in student‟s narrative writing process had five stages. There are Pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing and publishing. (2) there are problems that faced by students, there are about composition, comprehension and conception of ideas, the generic structure and feeling difficult and bored. And the difficulties for the teacher was a time and classroom management. (3) there was a significant increase in student‟s writing narrative text between pre-test and post-test (pre-test average is 52,04 and post-test average is 77,84). The research recommended that there is a need for further reviewing of the writing activities.
